BIRTHDAYS AND SUMMER FUN!

Let’s see, our last post here was on April 24.  Since then, we’ve burnt up the highways with trips to Columbus for birthdays, graduations and moving.  Then there was Owensboro for a 91st birthday, Mother’s Day, and just visiting.  Kathleen’s grandkids spent 10 days with us while their mother moved to Indiana.  Oh, then there was Memorial Day, spent on the boat in Brunswick.  On the way down, we decided not to stop at Total Wine in Atlanta to replenish our woefully sad stock of rum thinking that we could always go to Jacksonville while in Brunswick or stop somewhere on our way to Columbus.  That’s when we learned, after driving several miles out of our way to Total Wine in N Carolina that you can’t buy rum at a liquor store.  Actually, you can’t buy rum in a store that sells wine and beer.  Properly stated, you can’t buy beer in a liquor store.

Kaitlyn was four years old on April 20.

She plays the part of a princess very well!

My mom was 91 on the very next day.  She shares a birthday with Queen Elizabeth II.

After visiting the boat on Memorial Day, we rushed back to Columbus for Ashley's graduation from grammar school.

The 10 days the kids spent with us were filled with all kinds of good stuff.  We went to Kentucky Down Under

where we got to feed birds up close and personal.

We petted Emus and Kangaroos.

And we went underground in Kentucky Caverns.  The cave is an especially beautiful cave, filled with stalactites, stalagmites and travertine curtains; simply gorgeous!

We gathered firewood and made S'mores and roasted marshmallows.

What would summer be without a good water balloon fight?

We went to the lake and learned to sail

                and went swimming

Summer has been fun.  Now we're ready for the 4th of July!  Bring it on!
